it also saves you hard drive space.May 2014: To celebrate the award of PC Gamer's "Multiplayer Game of the Year 2013", we have update Rising Storm to the Game of the Year edition.
RED ORCHESTRA 2 RISING STORM PATCH
Having the games merged means there is only one large patch to download, rather than two large patches, thus saving people's internet download limits some few gigs here and there. (A problem Chivalry and other UE3 games experience) The other issue is that updates/paches for RO2/RS are usually quite large due to the Unreal Engine 3's "Cooking" process which ends up having players download a lot of content all over again, even if it's only for some minor changes. so you can play an RO2 map, and then the next map could be an RS map & you won't have to get kicked from the server for not having the other game (Which is also why RO2 owners who didn't buy RS still get a lite version of RS with just the Rifleman class available, but all maps are still available to them) They also combined the two because both games share the same server browser and same servers. Their reasoning for combining the two games was so that it didn't end up splitting the community, which is kind of did anyways. It's also noted in the Steam Page for Rising Storm near the bottom somewhere that you get the RO2 MP. (I paid around $40 for RO2 from the start and now had to pay even more money, when RS purchasers get both RO2 and RS for far less, especially when you account for the pre-order discounts of 40% off for some people) and a lot of RO2 owners got a little pissed, including myself, but I got over it. TW did make it pretty clear in their forums about getting RO2 included with RS. The drawback again is the additional costs.

RED ORCHESTRA 2 RISING STORM OFFLINE
RS does come included with Workshop/Practice Mode for playing offline matches against bots if you like, but it's not the same as the SP.Īnd RS does come included with RO2's Training Missions from its SP, so you can at least get those achievements. So you either buy RO2 first and then RS afterwards to get the full experience and package, or just buy RS to get everything but the SP of RO2 and any of it's achievements. Which again, if you are, you'll never accomplish any of them if you get RS first. Some say the SP sucks anyways and you won't be missing much, but I like it and there's a bunch of achievements included with the SP if you're into that sort of thing. The downside to buying RS first is that there is no way to get the RO2 SP later. Thus you still end up having to pay more to get what you would have got if you just bought RS off the bat. If you buy RO2, you get the SP and a very limited version of RS, which means you can only select the rifleman class, you can not level anything up, or unlock, and you are continually reminded to buy RS after each RS match you play. But in saying that, if you buy RS, you get RO2 Multiplayer included with your purchase but don't get the RO2 Single Player Campaign.
